Jacks

Replacing a wheel on the road or lifting the car for minor repair work is impossible without the use of a car jack. In Shop for cars, various types of reliable lifting mechanisms are presented, so choosing the optimal jack for your car will not be difficult.

Types of car jacks

Manufacturers offer different types of jacks, but car owners often use the following types of lifting mechanisms.

  • Screw diamond-shaped jacks have a compact size, a load capacity of up to 2 tons and a maximum clearance height of 11.5 cm.
  • Mechanical bottle jackswith a similar load capacity are more powerful, so they require less muscle effort. The lifting height of such screw jacks is 15 or more centimeters.
  • Hydraulic bottle jack requires a minimum of mechanical effort. It is actuated by a hand pump that pumps oil to the piston, thereby increasing its pressure. The lifting height of hydraulic models starts at 15.8 cm, and the load capacity varies from 2 to 100 tons, which allows you to choose a jack for any car or truck.

All bottle jacks must be stored in an upright position, and hydraulic models require periodic oil changes.

  • Hydraulic jacks have a higher operating speed compared to bottle jacks. The assortment includes models of medium and high load capacity with a pick-up height of 13 cm.

How to choose a jack for a specific car

  1. Rhombo-shaped jacks are standard for most cars, but it is much easier to use a bottle screw jack. The last option is standard for crossovers and SUVs, but if you want to simplify the work, it can be replaced with a hydraulic model (bottle or roll-on).
  2. Regardless of the type of car jack, several points should be considered when choosing a specific model:
  3. The load capacity of the jack must correspond to the weight of the car with all the contents of the trunk. Therefore, for reliability, it is worth having a reserve of up to 500 kg.
  4. For cars with low ground clearance (up to 15 cm), you need to choose jacks with a grip height of 6-8 cm. For other cars, the pick-up height can be easily calculated. Measure the distance from the ground to the point of installation of the lift and subtract the height of the car's profile from the obtained number. This is necessary because the car becomes lower when the wheel is lowered.
  5. When choosing a jack, it should be taken into account that the car wheel may drop when lifting the body: in passenger cars by 6-8 cm, in SUVs by at least 15 cm. Therefore, pay attention to the maximum height of the car jack.

If choosing a car jack causes you difficulties, contact the store consultants who will help you choose a lift in accordance with the characteristics of your car.
