Protective film for thresholds and handles
Car styling with vinyl film (vinyl styling) is a popular way to improve the exterior and interior of a car. Such tuning is most often used not only for aesthetic purposes, but also to protect the body and individual elements of the car. That is why new materials with increased protective properties appear on the market, and one of the best today is carbon film. The roll material is intended for pasting bumpers, fenders, thresholds, door handles, mirrors and other elements of the car that require additional protection from mechanical damage.
What is carbon film for cars
Many car enthusiasts have already tried various vinyl films. For example, anti-gravel film has a thickness of up to 240 microns, but is considered armored. In comparison, universal carbon film can have a thickness of up to 400 microns, so it has significantly higher protective properties.
The film got its name because it looks like a polymer composite material made of carbon fiber, which has the international name Carbon. This carbon fiber has a strength comparable to metals, and this is its main advantage. At the same time, carbon is quite expensive, so using it for car styling is very expensive. A protective film that imitates a carbon pattern is much cheaper. It can be made of various polymers, but also has a very durable structure.
Advantages of carbon film for thresholds and handles
- Protective film for thresholds and handles under carbon has a number of advantages over other films used for car styling:
- Due to its high density and strength, it better protects surfaces from mechanical damage.
- Opaque film can easily hide existing roughness, scratches and chips.
- The material is resistant to ultraviolet radiation, temperature changes and long-term exposure to high and low temperatures. It does not crack or deform under the influence of negative atmospheric factors, retaining its original appearance and properties for a long time.
- The material is resistant to chemical reagents used to treat the road, oils, gasoline, solvents and other chemicals. Therefore, the surfaces of the car covered with carbon film can be subjected to conventional cleaning methods using any detergents. In case of heavy contamination, the film can be washed with a hot aqueous solution at a temperature of 70 0 C.
- Dense carbon film does not stretch, so it is much easier to apply. It is also easy to remove without damaging the paintwork of the thresholds and handles.
- The service life is on average 5-7 years.
Types of carbon film for cars
Carbon film is available in wide or narrow rolls: wide is most often used for pasting the body, and narrower is more convenient to use for pasting individual elements of the body, thresholds and handles. This protective car film is thicker (500 microns), so it is ideal for areas most vulnerable to mechanical damage.
Decorative protective film has external characteristics and structure:
- 2D carbon film has a smooth surface with a printed pattern that visually replicates carbon fiber. The material is laminated on the outside.
- The 3D carbon film has a textured surface, making the material resemble carbon not only in appearance, but also in tactile sensations.
- The colors and patterns of wide films for body styling are very diverse, but transparent or black carbon film is usually used to finish individual elements.
How to properly cover thresholds with carbon film
Unlike wide film, which has not only a protective but also a decorative function, narrow films 70 mm wide are used to protect areas of the car that are susceptible to mechanical damage. It can be used to cover thresholds, handles, the lower part of the bumper and other elements that are sufficient for the specified width. If special technologies are required when covering the body, the use of a narrower and densercarbon fiber film does not require special skills or additional tools. All you may need during work is sharp scissors or a stationery knife, as well as a dry soft cloth to smooth out the material.
Before you start pasting the protective film for thresholds and handles, the work surface must be thoroughly cleaned of dirt and degreased - this way the adhesive base will better adhere to the surface. After measuring the required size, cut off a piece of carbon fiber film, carefully remove a small part of the transport layer and stick the strip to the desired location. Slowly pulling the transport layer with one hand, smooth the carbon fiber film from above in the direction of movement with the other. If you are pasting a small area, you can immediately remove the transport layer. Excess carbon fiber film can be easily cut off with a sharp stationery knife.
